Prepare Your Home
Is your home prepared for a power outage? Make sure you know what to do in an emergency.

STAY IN THE KNOW
Outage information has never been easier to access. Here’s how:
- We’ll text alerts (COMING SOON) to the phone number associated with your HLP account so be sure to update your contact information on our SmartHub Portal.
- Check out our Outage Map for information on areas affected and estimated restoration times.
MAKE A PLAN
Plan for your household’s needs and make sure everyone is on the same page.
- Know where you’ll go: Plan ahead to relocate with a friend, family member or to a shelter, especially if you have a medical condition that requires electricity or you’ll need to work or learn from home.
- Plan for feeding and watering pets or livestock, if well pumps don’t have power.
- Consider buying a backup generator and follow manufacturers’ guidelines for its safe operation.
- Get more information from the Red Cross and Ready.gov.
PUT TOGETHER AN OUTAGE KIT
Make sure you have the equipment and resources that your household will need in an emergency. Here are a few basic items to get you started:
- Flashlights or headlamps and extra batteries
- Battery-powered or hand-crank radio and clock or watch
- Car chargers for cell phones, laptops and/or tablets
- Bottled water for people and animals (if you rely on electricity to pump water)
- Emergency phone numbers, including HLP Customer Service: 435-654-1581
Plan for Medical Needs
Households with medical needs, care facilities and medical facilities often rely on electricity for medical and support equipment. Be sure to have a backup power source and a plan in the event of an emergency.
- Prepare a backup power supply so you can still power medical equipment during an outage.
- Plan ahead to relocate with a friend, family member or to a shelter if needed.
- Be sure to have plenty of medical supplies on hand.
