Follow these safety tips to keep you and your loved ones safe around electricity:
Planning ahead for emergencies gives us peace of mind:
*If you use medical equipment in your home that requires electricity, talk to your doctor or health care provider about how you can prepare for its use during a power outage.
*Build an emergency kit stocked with items you may need to survive on your own without electricity for several days. Flashlights, batteries, manual can opener, back up batteries for cell-phones, food, water, first aid kit, battery operated radio, sleeping bags and other essential items are recommended. Visit Ready.gov for a complete list.
*Seniors and individuals with disabilities should keep a list of people to call to assist during an emergency and make a plan.
*Family’s should make a plan and practice it
*Visit the Be Ready Utah Power Outage and Safety page for more great tips.
